I have never had any previous medical experiences in my entire life that required a medical professional. This medical procedure was the first medical issue in my life, that required surgery. Dr. Rockson Liu prior to the procedure explained in detail what to expect, and answered any questions I had. Dr. Liu also explained how I would feel after the procedure that may include some soreness or discomfort and perhaps pain. But I did not feel any pain during the procedure and no pain after the procedure neither Dr. Rockson Liu took the time to contact me the day after the procedure was done to see how I was doing if I had any discomfort or if I needed anything to contact his office. I could not have asked for a better professional medical Dr. or his staff Today has been 20 days since the medical procedure, I am recuperating very nicely, Dr. Rockson Liu has restored my body it looks as if nothing has been done if feels good, the medical procedures was a successful procedure. Michael36 days agoDr. Liu is a master of the most current hernia tools. I walked out of his office in 50 minutes and needed no pain medicine. If you need a hernia repair, I doubt you can do better. I also recommend that you listen to "The Hernia Doctor" on YouTube. She interviewed Dr. Liu so you can hear his discussion with Dr. Shirwin (sp?) along with her interviews of a hundred or so other surgeons.Posted on Yelp

Excellent experience last year with Dr. Liu. My primary care doc said he was the most experienced in the East Bay at doing robotic hernia surgeries. He did a great job, was a very clear Communicator and always available for follow ups (Which I did not need). He also did a bilateral hernia on my best friend (Who is a Doc). R Z166 days agoI recommend Dr Liu highly both from a professional and a personal standpoint. He is an outstanding surgeon, skilled and enthusiastic about robotic surgery and good at listening and communicating. My surgery was surprisingly fast and painless. No use for any pain medication afterwards. Except for the daze from the anesthesia and the restrictions on straining, I was able to function almost normally if more slowly the next day. Minimal discomfort and fatigue for a few days but no pain from the surgery. The only restrictions after that were self-imposed (no straining per instructions).Posted on Yelp

Gary H208 days agoIt's been over a year since my hernia surgery and I feel that I can now provide an accurate review. I found Dr. Liu researching hernia surgeons and was impressed with his experience and the fact that he teaches other doctors how to use the robot. My initial visit went smoothly. He was friendly and explained everything well. I was 73 years old and Dr. Liu indicated that the surgery would be complex. I had two inguinal hernias, one the size of a golf ball and the other softball size. The larger one had descended into my scrotum contacting a testicle. The surgery went well despite some complications. The surgical staff and anesthesiologist were great. I never experienced any pain or discomfort and awoke feeling good. I took the recommended ibuprofen and Tylenol pain medications as directed for two weeks and never experienced discomfort or pain. At eight weeks I began to to feel normal again and at six months I felt completely healed. I was warned that I may develop a seroma (fluid retention) after surgery and I did. The only discomfort that I currently experience is when I bend over to tie my shoes, clip my toenails or get up out of my recliner. I am very pleased with my surgical outcome and believe that it is due to Dr. Liu's skill and experience. I highly recommend him to anyone requiring hernia surgery.Posted on Yelp

Healthgrades U217 days agoI have a huge incisional scar on my belly, from an emergency open perforated ulcer operation I had in 2016. Ten years later, it developed an incisional hernia , that the initial surgeon I was referred to by my PP couldn't fix it, due to the size and complications . He then referred me to Dr Liu. My experience with Dr Liu was excellent .Dr Liu is not only highly skilled and knowledgeable in hernia surgery of any type ,He is also a wonderful human being .He's kind, patient ,caring, and passionate .My anxiety level for using the surgical mesh, that he had chosen and recommended to be the best treatment for my situation was very high .With Dr Liu's confidence and thorough clarification of the pros and cons, risks and benefits , associated with using mesh , I entered the OR with a clear mind. Post operation went well as expected . I was very pleased with the outcome . Dr Liu and his talented team's performance was excellent , with grace, courage , and honor . I highly recommend Dr. Liu and his surgical team and his office, pre-op and post op professionals. Dr. Liu’s expertise in using robotic surgical technology is truly remarkable. He and his team performed laparoscopic hernia surgery for my family member. P B356 days agoDr. Liu is highly professional and competent, as well as coming across as a kind and caring human being. As a medical professional myself, I am pretty discriminating when it comes to medical care, and I am so grateful to have had Dr. Liu repair my hernia. Fortunately my situation was much less complicated than many who come to see him, so he did not need to use his skills in robotic surgery-- I was in and out of the highly efficient surgicenter where he practices in a few hours, repaired and ready to go home to recuperate fully. He explained everything fully, doing just what was needed and not more, conveying clearly that he has the patient's best interest in mind above all. All of the staff who I encountered at the surgicenter-- the receptionists, nurses, anesthesiologist-- were also caring, efficient, and competent. Ly H479 days agoExtremely knowledgeable and very attentive to my situation. Unfortunately, I had a surgery which was not done correctly and now have to suffer the consequences of it. There was nothing Dr. Liu could do to fix what had been done. He was very respectful, helpful, and tried to give me all the information I needed to go forward. Healthgrades U1288 days agoI received stellar help from Dr. Liu and team. My experience with Dr. Liu was excellent. I am almost a year out from a double hernia surgery. I am once again able to provide a great deal of educational volunteer work (I am a retired teacher) as well as working hard to help my family. Dr. Liu and his talented team helped me avoid being an added burden to my family during the pandemic. The hernias were serious. Dr. Liu, based on my experience, is a highly skilled, dedicated professional performing a difficult, important job with grace, courage, and honor. Thanks, and Best Wishes to Dr. Liu and his team of caring, capable professionals. In my case, I was initially afraid to exercise some months after surgery due to the severity of the hernias. I have found that light work on an exercise bike actually decreased the residual twinges of pain which were alarming me for a while. John R1556 days agoI had 2 unsuccessful hernia surgeries before Dr Liu was recommended to by a doctor who had watched him doing a hernia operation, When we met he explained everything before the surgery and has been monitoring the results with both office and video meetings since it. During a very hard life I have had many surgeries and I think Dr Lui is one of the few surgeons I have complete faith in.Posted on WebMD
Anonymous1809 days agoI’ve been referred to Dr. Liu on separate occasions for a catheter placement and for hernias. The consultations were always highly informative and comforting. The surgeries involved minimal incisions, healed quickly and have served me well over a year later. His bedside manner exudes great competence and compassion and instilled a lot of calm and confidence through my hospital stays and recovery. In every consultation, Dr. Liu spent enough time with us to explain the issues I was facing, the possible decisions we could make, the timelines involved for treatment and recovery, their implications, the type of activity and exercise I could do over the short and medium term and other issues. He answered the many questions my wife and I had, and always provided details when we wanted them. I particularly appreciated that he took an effort to communicate in layperson’s terms, even when providing details about laparoscopic surgery, or the mechanism by which my tissues would heal. Dr. Liu identified my hernias from several feet away, even before he examined me. It was the most understated demonstration of a superpower I have witnessed! Due to an unrelated health issue flaring up, I was not discharged after my surgery in the normal way. COVID restrictions meant that my wife could not visit me either. I was very happy to see a familiar face when Dr. Liu came to check on me the morning after and assure me that everything would be fine. I felt well taken care of. In the week after the my hernia surgery, I did not even notice the site, felt I could move normally and had no pain. I also had a catheter placed. The exit site had no discharge and healed very quickly. It’s been over a year since and I’ve had no issue with either. Nurses who’ve examined me, and my primary care physician, all with no connection to Dr. Liu’s practice, have admired how clean my catheter’s exit site is and how quickly it healed. He is a cutting edge hernia repair specialist, an expert in minimally invasive robot assisted surgery. He is so highly regarded that he teaches other surgeons how to use the robot. He operated on me at 7am on a Friday. By that afternoon I was able to walk a half mile. The day after surgery I walked over a mile. And by the second day after surgery I felt pretty close to normal. Pain management was over the counter pain meds only (didn't need any Opioids). And his post operation instructions are extremely detailed, very helpful and easy to understand. Recovery was painless: I did not have to take any narcotic pain medication like hydrocodone; I took only Tylenal for the minor discomfort in the first few days after surgery. Now, 14 days after surgery, I am good as new! The entire experience with Dr. Liu was completely satisfactory.
