The exact pain medication given after hernia surgery may differ from person to person. For simple hernias, 90+% of patients only take Tylenol and Ibuprofen after surgery. For larger or more complex hernias, typically you’ll take a narcotic pain (such as Norco or hydrocodone) medication in addition to Tylenol and Ibuprofen to help control pain or discomfort.
However, because Dr. Liu uses advanced technology and minimally-invasive techniques, we have seen 90+% of our patients not need any narcotics. In those patients who need narcotics, they use 80% less narcotics after surgery than the typical patient after hernia surgery.
Dr. Liu accepts Medicare and most PPO insurance plans. In many cases, PPO patients only pay a consultation fee. If surgery is needed, most insurance plans provide coverage, subject to your plan benefits and approval requirements.
Scheduling a surgery with Dr. Liu is easy:
Step 1: Book your general surgery or hernia consultation. During this consultation, Dr. Liu will examine you to make sure you’re a candidate for surgery. He’ll answer any questions and concerns you have before your surgery. You may also need additional testing to make sure everything’s in order before we schedule the surgery.
Step 2: If you are a candidate for surgery, Dr. Liu and his office team will put in a pre-authorization with your insurance. Once it’s approved by your insurance, our office staff will reach out to you to schedule the procedure.
Step 3: On the day of the surgery, you’ll arrive at the specified surgical center. Dr. Liu will meet with you before the operation and go over any other questions or concerns you may have. He’ll also use this time to go over postoperative instructions.
